Narcotics investigation leads to arrest of local man
BELLVILLE – The Austin County Regional Special Response Team (SRT) executed search warrants and an arrest warrant Nov. 29 at a property located in the 4000 block of Coshatte Road in Bellville. These warrants were the result of an ongoing narcotics investigation led by the Westside Narcotics Task Force (HIDTA).

Eagle Lake gets into the Christmas spirit
EAGLE LAKE - Residents of Eagle Lake got their Christ - mas spirit flowing for the reason for the season with its annual tree lighting and movie night on the square in downtown Ea - gle Lake. Hot cocoa, Christmas music, Santa and the Merry on Main Movie Night followed with grilled hotdogs and a traditional Christmas movie. This event leads up to the Pa - rade of Lights and festivities on Saturday, Dec. 9, starting at 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Parade of Lights is always fun as many people will pull out all the stops on decorating their floats while others line the streets in antic- ipation of seeing unique floats, music, food and shopping in Ea- gle Lake. The parade kicks off at 6:45 p.m.

Oh, what a story it could tell
COLUMBUS – In the early morning of Sept. 8, a tree shed a limb. That would not be significant if it were not for the fact that the tree that shed the limb was officially the largest in Texas. This 500-plus-year-old Live Oak tree sits on private property in the Columbus city limits on 1340 Walnut Street. It has been visited by tourists and passed by so many times by locals that no one realized the shedding of the limb may have cost the old tree its coveted title bestowed upon it by the Texas Forest Service in 2016.
