Bluebonnet promotes Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
BASTROP – Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative’s employees, buildings and vehicles are displaying gold during Septem- ber to support the fight against childhood cancer. This is the sixth year that Bluebonnet has promoted Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by illuminating its member service centers in Bastrop, Brenham, Giddings, Lockhart and Manor in gold light. Bluebonnet’s member service representatives will wear and hand out gold-ribbon pins, and Bluebonnet crew vehicles will display gold-ribbon decals.

Honors and Shocker at Commissioner's Court
Colorado County Commissioners recognized long-time Sergeant Carol Richter on her retirement during the regular court meeting on Aug. 14. Though Richter was not present for the meeting, Judge Ty Prause said before reading a resolution in her honor that she was a 'very dedicated person' as she worked for Colorado County Sheriff's Office since 1981. Prause read aloud the resolution which read in part: Sergeant Carol Richter, faithfully and diligently served the citizens of Colorado County with the Colorado County Sheriff's Office from July 14, 1981, un til her retirement date of July 31, 2023.

FC Sheriff’s Sergeant Meagher risks life to save a life
LA GRANGE – Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported, on the night of Aug. 16 around 9:38 p,m., the Fayette County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a structure fire on Plum Church Road off State Highway 71 near La Grange and it was reported by the caller someone was still in the house and cannot get out. The La Grange Fire Department was notified and responded along with Fay ette County Deputies, Fayette County EMS 2, and EMS Medic 1. La Grange Fire Department requested mutual aid from the Muldoon Fire Department. Sgt. Ryan Meagher arrived on the scene to a wooden structure residence that was heavily engulfed with fire. TxDot, Law Enforcement step up effort to curb drunk driving
YOAKUM – As Labor Day approaches, TxDOT is reminding all Texans about the dangers of drunk driving. The National Highway Traf- fic Safety Administration has an nounced an increased enforcement period from Aug. 18 to Sept. 4. Texas law enforcement agencies are among those that will increase their efforts to pull over motorists suspected of drunk driving.
