Letter to the editor…
I am proud to call myself an American. During the recent primary while I was doing research on the candidates to help me decide whom to vote for, I came across some facts that I felt all of you would like to know. Elections are very important and the words used during an election are also important. Saying or putting words out that are not correct is not fair to the average voter, nor is it ethical.

Totally Terrific Tomatoes
“Home grown tomatoes, home grown tomatoes, what would life be without home grown tomatoes. Only two things that money can’t buy, that’s true love and homegrown tomatoes.” - Guy Clark There is nothing like eating a home grown tomato fresh out of the sun. And for us tomato lovers, there are few things more satisfying and enjoyable than tending to a garden full of our favorite fruited plants.

“Bonanza!”
My husband, Peter, and I spend the winters in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The center of the town is a designated World Heritage Site, which means the facades of the buildings must remain as they were in the mid-1700s.

The on-again, off-again state immigration law is once more on hold while the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals considers its constitutionality. Senate Bill 4 would allow state and local law enforce- _____ _________ ___ _______ ____ __ port people suspected of entering the state illegally from Mexico, the Austin American-Statesman reported. The U.S. Supreme Court last Tuesday removed a temporary hold on the law, which allowed it to take effect for several hours before the 5th Circuit court again stopped SB4 from being enforced while it considers its constitutionality.

The Great Eclipse – A Good Time for Earthlings
“That’s one thing Earthlings might learn to do, if they tried hard enough: Ignore the awful times and concentrate on the good ones.” Kurt Vonnegut Some will say that at present we are living in awful times (I would disagree). Many are stressed by everything from societal unrest to the high price of eggs, and more.

How Did My African-American Ancestors Get Here?
The Trans-Atlantic slave exports were concentrated along the coast of West Africa from Senegal down to Angola. From these locations, Portugese ships sailed across the South Atlantic Ocean to Salvador and Brazil and around the lower Americas to Peru, while European and American ships sailed up the east coast of Brazil and dropped off their cargo with stops at Salvador and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Guyana; Venezuela; Dominican Republic; Haiti; Jamaica; Cuba and along the North and South Carolina coast on the Barrier Islands. Some of the descendants of the island African Gulla slaves with their unique heritage still live in the area. Many of my ancestors came through South Carolina and North Carolina.

Revitalization!
The Columbus Chamber of Commerce strives to be at the table of the many conversations happening in the region on workforce, transportation, housing, business growth, economic stability, and community development. As we analyze what is internal to determine where we can help guide and determine outcomes, we also must analyze what is external, the areas where we have little to no ability to help guide or determine outcomes, i.e., weather, national economy, and international conflicts.

The Forgotten Typewriter
My appreciation for typewriters began in Jr. High. The low-budget private school that I attended did not have the money to supply our typing class with typewriters, so students had to provide their own. For almost two years, four semesters of typing class, I carried my Mom’s Royal portable to school every day. The case barely fit in my locker.
