Letter from a Birmingham Jail
Letter from a Birmingham Jail
In April of 1963, Martin Luther King, Jr. was arrested and jailed in Birmingham, Alabama. Alone for several days in the dull “monotony of a narrow jail cell,” as he described it, King penned a letter that has been described as one of the most important historical documents ever written. Considered a classic treatise on civil disobedience, it is perhaps one of the most beautifully crafted and eloquent letters ever composed. Every American should read it. 02/07/2024 23:00
“A Piece of Cake”
“A Piece of Cake”
My husband, Peter, and I landed in Mexico again, and we did what we have done in the past. We bought an enormous cake. It's nice to have a cake in the house. I have discovered it is not necessarily a good idea to eat cake every day, as it eventually makes my clothes too small. But I do like cake, and I especially like Mexican cake, and more than anything, I like giving cake away. 02/07/2024 23:00

This week, the stories are about some small animals and one very large animal. 02/07/2024 23:00

Texas' standoff with feds in Eagle Pass is igniting calls for secession and fears of violence
The standoff between Texas and the federal government at the southern border has ignited a fight over states' rights, with secessionists latching onto the ordeal as a reason for Texas to become “an independent and self-governing nation,” according to the longtime leader of Texas’ unlikely secessionist movement, Daniel Miller. 02/07/2024 23:00

Animal Footprints in Fayette
Our Footprints articles are written by local historians who are also volunteer members of the Fayette County Historical Commission. In the previous article, it was mentioned that the Fayette County Record had been printing the Footprints articles for over 20 years. We’d just like to mention that the articles have also appeared in many other local papers, including The Banner Press, Flatonia Argus, Schulenburg Sticker, and Weimar Mercury, and even occasionally mentioned on the local radio stations. Not only do all of your local papers support us by publishing these articles, they are also always willing to include news articles and public service announcements for the Historical Commission as well as others to help keep our Fayette County history alive. 01/31/2024 23:00
