Easter Bunny hops over to Columbus!
RESS COLUMBUS - The Easter Bunny visited the Columbus town square last Saturday to bring smiles and surprises to kids young and old. The Annual Easter Egg Hunt was sponsored by the Columbus Chamber of Commerce which helped the Easter Bunny in putting out approximately 6,000 eggs in three separate areas of the Colorado County Courthouse Square.

Flatonia softball blows out Louise in three innings
The Flatonia High School softball team throttled Louise High School March 28 at Lady Bulldogs Field by a final score of 15-0. This score came by mercy rule in three innings as Louise struggled to throw strikes while Flatonia capitalized when the Lady Hornets were able to throw the ball across the plate.

Weimar wins district golf tournament Schulenburg places 2nd
The Weimar High School golf team finished first as the host of their district golf tournament April 3 at Weimar Golf Club with a total score of 374. Hudson Ervin shot 87, Weston Pavlik 94, Dillon Stech 98, Brady Henke 95, and Camden Morrison with a 104.

Fayetteville baseball catching fire
The Fayetteville High School baseball team is currently on a roll as they've won five of their last six games and won those five games consecutively. The wins were all from two-game series’ against Somerville, Snook, and then the Lions split a series with Burton, winning the first game and losing the second.

Weimar dominating, picking up where they left off
The Lady Wildcats softball team made a state tournament appearance last year and seem to be on track to make another appearance in 2023. It’s still early in the season, but Weimar currently has an overall record of 23-5-1 with a 7-1 record in district. They’ve also won their last 10 games in a row with three of them being wins by a final score of 17-0.

Columbus softball completes huge comeback for win vs Yoakum
COLUMBUS – The Lady Cardinals softball team mounted an enormous comeback March 21 at Cardinals Field and defeated Yoakum High School by a final score of 15-12. Yoakum tacked on the runs early before Columbus scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and closed out the game on defense in the top of the seventh.

Area powerlifters turn in State results
ABILENE – Columbus, Schulenburg, Brazos, and Flatonia High Schools all had powerlifters participate in the state powerlifting meet March 24 at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene, with lifters from two of the schools crowning themselves as state champions.
