A November Story – The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
My wife and I have three intrepid children, grown now, one son and two daughters. Between school and jobs and the adventures of youth, they have traveled this country and the world. From Haiti to Sri Lanka, Scotland to Spain, Mongolia to Alaska and the nether regions of the far north, they have seen the world.

COLUMBUS – The Live Oaks and Dead Folks Cemetery tour on Nov. 5 was eerily busy for a cemetery. Folks, not just ghosts, were visiting sites of interest to learn a little about the history and the movers and shakers of Columbus in the distant and their good and not-sogood pasts.

Fayette County Narcotics K-9 Unit Seizes 23 Kilos of Cocaine
Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Oc.t. 31, the Fayette Coun- ty Sheriff's Office Narcotics Ca nine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and K9 partner Kolt, stopped an 18-wheeler pulling a flatbed trail er 10 at the 658 mile marker at approximately 12:45 p.m. for a traffic violation.

Bluebonnet Master Gardener Association opens registration
BRENHAM – The Bluebonnet Master Gardener Association (BMGA) announces that registration is open for its 2024 Mas- ter Gardener Certification Train ing Class to be held in Brenham. The class is open to participants from Austin, Colorado, Fayette, and Washington counties, and will provide 50-plus hours of gar dening education from experts in various fields of horticulture.

BELLVILLE - Brahmas football won their last game of the season to ensure a 10-0 bout against Sweeny High School Nov. 3 at Brahmas Stadium by a final score of 49-0. Bellville put their running game on display once again as this game plan has worked for them all year. They also didn’t allow much of anything on defense and forced a few turnovers. "We've got a good senior group, good senior leader - ship," said Bellville head football coach Grady Rowe.

Columbus volleyball starts playoffs strong by throttling Great Hearts Northern Oaks
SCHULENBURG – Lady Cardinals volleyball started their postseason push with a big win against Great Hearts Northern Oaks High School Oct. 30 at Shorthorns Gym of Schulenburg by a final score of 25-5, 25-7, 257. Great Hearts was overmatched by a lethal Columbus team and it showed in the score as the Lady Cardinals’ offense couldn’t be stopped. “One game at a time,” said Columbus head volleyball coach Kayley Johns. “Stay focused on the game at hand. This was the game we had to be focused on right now and we’ve got big goals, but they know it’s really important to stay focused one game at a time right now.”
