What to expect from La Grange football this fall
Leopards football is going through a lot of big changes as the ’23-’24 school year approaches. La Grange recently hired Kyle Cooper as their athletic director and head football coach while graduating two division one football players in Jaren Woods (Baylor) and Bravion Rogers (Texas A&M). With Woods and Rogers being two huge losses, the Cooper hiring brings optimism to a new-look Leopards team.

Bellville volleyball poised for another big year
The Bellville High School volleyball team is known for making the state tournament and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them go again this fall. Brahmanette volleyball is led by hall of fame coach Susan Brewer, who has nothing short of a powerhouse running at Bellville. Brewer was inducted to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Hall of Fame last summer, has been to multiple state tournaments, and does it all with pure class.

LA GRANGE – La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath reported that thieves driving a black F-350 and a white F-250 stole a 2019 Bobcat skid steer and a 2018 Big Tex dump trailer from the LG-RV Resort in La Grange on June 21 around 11 p.m.

ETHEL HURR RAY
November 23, 1928 – June 12, 2023 Ethel Hurr Ray, age 94, passed away peacefully at home on June 12, 2023. Ethel was born on November 23, 1928 in Columbus, Texas to Johnnie Lee and Henry Hurr. After losing her father at a very young age, Ethel spent her childhood with her mother in Glidden, Texas surrounded by her beloved Aunt and Uncle, Ethel and Harvey Hope, as well as her cousin Betty Jo Hope Wittmer, who was like a sister to her.

2023 Colorado County Fair Pageant contest opens soon
Contestants for the 2023 Colorado County Fair pageant can register online via https://coloradocountyfair.org/!!! or by calling one of the directors below. The contestant or parent must attend an informational meeting at the fairgrounds office on Wednesday, July 5 or Thursday, July 6 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. for sign-up, information, and season passes to sell. If unable to attend, contact either Shannan Gerik at (979) 732-0865 or Heidi May at (832) 588-5525 to get the information packet before the deadline. The deadline to enter the pageant is Tuesday, July 18. The fair queen pageants will take place Thursday, Sept. 7, on stage in the Founders Hall at the fairgrounds. The little miss/mister and junior miss pageant begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the junior fair queen pageant then the fair queen pageant.

This column will offend many dog lovers. Please accept my apologies in advance. I myself am a dog lover. I believe dogs are among the very best creations on Earth. Fewer things provide more pleasure than a loving relationship with a well-trained and well-behaved dog. But, the hardest part of training dogs is training their human masters.

Conservation urged as searing heat wave sweeps
Texas’ power grid reported record electricity use early last week. Both the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas are urging residents and businesses to voluntarily reduce electricity use as temperatures soar above100 degrees over much of the state. So far the grid, which administers 90% of the state’s power load, has been able to keep up with demand.
