Fayette Community Foundation administers $68,500 at scholarship reception
LA GRANGE – The Fayette Community Foundation (FCF) proudly hosted its third annual scholarship reception on May 21 at the Historic Casino Hall in La Grange. Celebrations! by Bistro 108 Events and Catering provided a beautiful spread of light bites for the reception where awarded students and their families were able to meet the FCF Board, scholarship donors, and fund representatives who made their scholarships possible.

Home Grown Vegetable Contest winners
BELLVILLE – The Home-Grown Vegetable Contest was held on June 10 at Linseisen’s Feed & Supply in Bellville, the host of the event. Along with the contest, there was an educational program on Different Types of Fertilizers & When to Fertilize What, presented by Shelby Dovzak from Nelson’s Plant Food. Nelson’s Plant Food provided a wonderful speaker. The Austin County Horticulture Committee donated the gift certificates for the first, sec ond and third place Best of Show.

Bellville native Richard Reese eyes big sophomore season with Baylor football
Baylor University running back and former Bellville Brahma Richard Reese came off a huge football season last year as a freshman and is projected to have a similar type of year in 2023. Reese became Bellville’s all-time leading rusher during his tenure as a Brahma and is one of those backs that is just that good.

Sealy AD Shane Mobley resigns
Sealy High School football coach and athletic director Shane Mobley has departed from his duties. Mobley is coming off a 7-5 season last year with the Tigers to go along with a first round playoff win against Jasper. Sealy then was ousted in the next round by Cuero on a score of 41-18.

EL Police Chief relieved of command
RESS EAGLE LAKE – Suspended Eagle lake Chief of Police Kris Abbott was of- ficially relieved of his command of the Eagle Lake Police Department on June 14. His termination by City Manager Charles “Tink” Jackson comes after a lengthy suspension while an investigation was concluded about instances where Abbott may have been derelict in his duties.

Seniors gather for fun and games at the Stafford Opera House
COLUMBUS - Seniors from around the county came for a good time socializing, playing games, eating a good lunch and, of course, playing Bingo. The first-ever gathering of a county-wide social group for seniors had everyone laughing and smiling. After an opening prayer, over 36 people and six volunteers got busy having fun. Future gatherings include educational speakers, day trips, dances and more Bingo.
