Fayetteville boy’s hoops rolling in playoffs
Lions boy’s basketball is still alive and very well in the playoffs as they’ve won their last 12 games in a row with the majority of them being by a wide margin. Fayetteville is led by second-year head coach Jake Diggs and has his team playing great system ball with athletes who have natural ability.

Columbus girl’s basketball punches ticket to second-consecutive state tourney
The Columbus High School girl’s basketball team is heading back to the Alamodome as they’ve earned a bid to the state tournament for the second year in a row. They sealed the deal with a win against Aransas Pass Feb. 24 by a score of 61-44 earning the 3A Region IV championship.

La Grange boy's hoops falls to Yates
KATY – The La Grange High School boy’s basketball team was defeated by Houston Yates High School Feb. 19 at the Merrell Center in Katy by a final score of 81-52. Yates athleticism and ability to get to the rim was the difference in this game as the Lions took control from the very beginning.

Columbus Education Foundation awards another Classroom Grant
COLUMBUS - Amanda Opperman, the sixth and eighth teacher at Columbus Junior High recently received a grant to take her students on a field trip to the NASA Space Center Houston. The Columbus Education Foundation (CEF) grant will cover the cost of the trip which is not in the budget allotted to her. Opperman was elated to get such a grant. Columbus Garden Club selects a Garden Angel
COLUMBUS - Brenda Boehm has been chosen as the Garden Angel for Columbus Garden Club 2023-24. Boehm has been in the garden club for 11 years. She routinely helps set up the club's meeting rooms, assists elderly members, plants pots and waters around the Colorado County Courthouse square in Columbus, and helps decorate down town for the Fall season as well as dec- orate the Colorado County Fairgrounds entrance for the Colorado County Fair. She has chaired the club's bake sale many times, the Scholarship Wagon, the Brookwood Volunteer Program, the E-Cycle program, and worked the Trash Off Event.

Seniors Together treated to barbecue
COLUMBUS - The Co - lumbus group of Seniors To gether was treated to a special delight of barbecue brisket during its last meeting on Feb.7 in Columbus. Brent Leftwich takes the brisket off the pit. Dr. Mazie Leftwich made homemade sauce on the stove. A crowd of over 60 people and 11 volunteers enjoyed the barbecue along with buttered potatoes, coleslaw and desserts galore. Seniors Together-Co - lumbus meets every first and third Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Lighthouse Fel - lowship Hall of St. Paul Luther - an Church in Columbus. If you are over 55 and want to play cards, dominoes, Bingo and get a great meal, come on by. Everyone is welcome. It's all free thanks to spon sors and donations.
