Bellville blasts La Grange in football season opener
BELLVILLE – Brahmas foot- ball won their first game of the sea son in dominating fashion by defeating La Grange High School August 25 at Brahmas Field with a final score of 68-20. Bellville was able to reach the end zone quick and didn’t let go of their large lead throughout the game, going up 62-13 at halftime and running the clock out for the majority of the second half en route to Bellville head football coach Grady Rowe’s 116th victory at Bellville, the most in school history.

La Grange volleyball ousted by East Bernard
LA GRANGE – The La Grange High School volleyball team fell to East Bernard High School August 22 at Leopards Gym by a final score of 25-14, 16- 25, 14-25, 11-25. La Grange had a really good first set and looked in sync, then East Bernard snapped back into shape to dominate the next three sets with a clicking offense. “When we start making mistakes, we get in our own heads,” said La Grange head volleyball coach Leslie Coltrain.

Two guest speakers at Columbus Lions
COLUMBUS – Columbus Lions President Gary Chandler introduced Liam Vasser who was sponsored this past summer to attend a week at the Lions Camp in Kerrville. Vasser told the Club about all of the fun things they were able to do, kayaking, fish ing, star gazing and woodworking just to name a few. He said it was a great week, meeting new friends too.

Honors and Shocker at Commissioner's Court
Colorado County Commissioners recognized long-time Sergeant Carol Richter on her retirement during the regular court meeting on Aug. 14. Though Richter was not present for the meeting, Judge Ty Prause said before reading a resolution in her honor that she was a 'very dedicated person' as she worked for Colorado County Sheriff's Office since 1981. Prause read aloud the resolution which read in part: Sergeant Carol Richter, faithfully and diligently served the citizens of Colorado County with the Colorado County Sheriff's Office from July 14, 1981, un til her retirement date of July 31, 2023.

Bluebonnet promotes Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
BASTROP – Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative’s employees, buildings and vehicles are displaying gold during Septem- ber to support the fight against childhood cancer. This is the sixth year that Bluebonnet has promoted Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by illuminating its member service centers in Bastrop, Brenham, Giddings, Lockhart and Manor in gold light. Bluebonnet’s member service representatives will wear and hand out gold-ribbon pins, and Bluebonnet crew vehicles will display gold-ribbon decals.
