FC Sheriff’s Sergeant Meagher risks life to save a life
LA GRANGE – Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported, on the night of Aug. 16 around 9:38 p,m., the Fayette County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a structure fire on Plum Church Road off State Highway 71 near La Grange and it was reported by the caller someone was still in the house and cannot get out. The La Grange Fire Department was notified and responded along with Fay ette County Deputies, Fayette County EMS 2, and EMS Medic 1. La Grange Fire Department requested mutual aid from the Muldoon Fire Department. Sgt. Ryan Meagher arrived on the scene to a wooden structure residence that was heavily engulfed with fire. Round Top-Carmine volleyball takes care of Navasota
CARMINE – The Round Top-Carmine High School volleyball team defeated Navasota High School in three sets Aug. 15 at Cubs Gym by a score of 25-20, 25-14, 25-15. As Round Top was projected to be one of the better teams in Class 1A, the team showed why with their high-powered offense, putting the ball down with force on the opposite side of the net. “This team’s just fun to watch,” said Round Top-Carmine head volleyball coach Catie Weishuhn.

Weimar volleyball falls to Goliad
SCHULENBURG – Lady Wildcats volleyball took a loss to Goliad High School Aug. 17 at Shorthorns Gym in the Lady Horn Classic tournament. Both teams battled back and forth, then Goliad had just a couple more things go their way in the third set to win the match 2521, 18-25, 25-20. “We’re looking just for leadership,” said Weimar head volleyball coach Amanda Machicek.

La Grange finding their way in volleyball
La Grange volleyball has an overall record of 7-11 and is still yet to start district play. The Lady Leopards are another team who had many impact players graduate in ’22 such as Maddi Fritz (University of Louisiana at La - fayette volleyball), Camille Gon zalez, and Hailey Hill. Even with suffering these losses, this year's team possesses players like de - fensive specialists Haylie Coo per, Mara Colon, and Jena Jobb.

Lady Lions volleyball at about .500 mark to start season
The Fayetteville High School volleyball team currently sits at 6-8 after the first couple weeks of the season. This was expect - ed with the departure of Brook lyn Jaeger and having to rebuild chemistry with a totally differ ent team. The Lady Lions now have senior outside hitter Kayme Schley leading the pack, who can easily reach double-digit kills on a nightly basis.

TxDot, Law Enforcement step up effort to curb drunk driving
YOAKUM – As Labor Day approaches, TxDOT is reminding all Texans about the dangers of drunk driving. The National Highway Traf- fic Safety Administration has an nounced an increased enforcement period from Aug. 18 to Sept. 4. Texas law enforcement agencies are among those that will increase their efforts to pull over motorists suspected of drunk driving.
