Fayette County stop leads to concealed cash

A routine traffic stop Sept. 20 by Fayette County Reserve Drug Interdiction Investigator Jeremy Ellison resulted in an arrest for money laundering after $186,070 in United States Currency was found concealed in a bus.

According to Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek, Ellison stopped a bus traveling west bound on Interstate 10 near the 665 mile-marker.

The driver, Jose Luis Salazar, 55, of Nuevo Leon, Mexico, gave inconsistent stories about his travel pattern and other criminal indicators, Korenek noted.

Consent was given for the search and concealed compartments were located with the assistance of Deputy Terry Guentert and Flatonia Police Officer Chris Kucera.
