Ruiz sentenced to 20 years for aggravated sexual assault

COLUMBUS — On Jan. 25, Joe Eugene Ruiz, 59, of Baytown, admitted his guilt to an aggravated sexual assault he committed against an under-age victim in 2003, in Eagle Lake and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

He first drew suspicion when he was arrested for the offense of indecency with a child alleged to have been committed in Baytown in 2017, against a different victim. That case is still pending.

Evidence developed during the Baytown investigation prompted Eagle Lake Police Department to open a sexual assault investigation into conduct allegedly occurring in Eagle Lake between 2000 and 2003 with an under-age victim.
