BPD adds sponsored officer to force

BELLVILLE - Austin Coun - ty Precint 1 Justice of Peace Judge Richard Yancey swore in Bellville Police Officer Johari Brown on Sept. 6 at the Austin County Justice Center in Bell - ville. Officer Brown becomes the first citizen of the community to be sponsored through the police academy by the City of Bellville. Officer Brown was chosen by an oral interview board consist - ing of citizens of Bellville. He is a 2016 Bellville High School graduate. His wife, Nancy, pinned on his badge for the first time to make it all official.

Deer program set

INDUSTRY - Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Services of Austin and Colorado counties are partnering with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to host a Feathers, Furs, and Farming series on Friday, Sept. 29. As part of the range and wildlife management series, this program will focus on white-tailed deer. Topics covered will include up - dates on Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), habitat management, sup - plemental feeding, doe harvesting, learning to age deer on the hoof, and basic antler scoring. We will also have some fun with an aging quiz, so sharpen those skills! If you are seeking TDA hours for your applicator license, there will be one General CEU available to pesticide applicators who attend. The event will be held at the Immaculate Conception German Catholic Church located at 1599 TX-159 in Industry.

Austin County feral hog bounty

Austin County Feral Hog Bounty is still going on! The Bounty program is offered with the support of the Austin Coun - ty Commissioners Court. Par - ticipants will be awarded $5 per feral hog harvested in Austin County, with biological evidence provided of harvest in the form of a pair of feral hog ears. Each pair must be placed in an indi - vidually sealed bag and dropped off at one of the three drop-off locations. Three local feed stores in the county - Steinhauser's in Sealy, Linseisen's Feed & Sup - ply in Bellville, and Lindemann Store in Industry - will serve as the drop-off locations. A limit of 20 pairs per house - hold per month is allowed. All feral hogs must be harvested in Austin County and signed paper - work must be completed when dropping off the ears to collect the bounty.
