Sealy softball rolling early
The Sealy High School softball team has gotten off to a great start as they surged to a 2-0 record February 15 with a 10-0 win against Jersey Village. Key performers were Jade Barton and Hannah Diemer, who each had two hits. Other big time performers were Jaylyn Packebush and Blair Kram with two RBI’s each, along with Caylee Syzdek, Katie Eder, and Avery Grigar, who all had one RBI each.

Round Top-Carmine blows by Prairie Lea with big second half in girls basketball
SCHULENBURG – Round Top-Carmine girl’s basketball won a playoff match vs Prairie Lea High School Feb. 12 at Schulenburg High School’s Shorthorns Gym by a final score of 52-32. After trailing for most of the first half, the Cubettes made halftime adjustments that paid off as they controlled the entire second half. “Our defense,” said Round Top-Carmine interim head girl’s basketball coach Bayley Gold on the keys to victory.

Sealy softball blasts Burton in four innings by mercy rule
SEALY – The Sealy High School softball team picked up a big win Feb. 13 at Lady Tigers Field by defeating Burton High School with a final score of 15-0 by mercy rule in four innings. Sealy put on a clinic defensively and offensively with lights out pitching and fielding, along with hitting the ball hard at the plate and finding the gaps. "We have a very talented group of kids,” said Sealy head softball coach Brittney Whitehead.

La Grange girl's soccer sneaks by Rockdale
LA GRANGE – The La Grange High School girl’s soccer team picked up a 1-0 win vs Rockdale High School February 9 at Leopards Stadium. It was an evenly matched game, but it was a big goal from the Lady Leopards in the second half that made the difference. “We have been focusing on really trying to connect passes and play the passing game,” said La Grange head girl’s soccer coach Lauren Hubbert.

FLATONIA – The Flatonia High School boy’s basketball team defended home court Feb. 6 at Bulldogs Gym by beating Schulenburg High School with a final score of 54-49. Both teams traded punches in a game that is usually a barn burner like it was, coming down to the last few minutes of the game where Flatonia was able to make important shots when needed. “Schulenburg’s a good team,” said Flatonia head boy’s basketball coach Chris Sodek.

La Grange boy's soccer falls in PK's
LA GRANGE – The La Grange High School boy’s soccer team was defeated by Manor New Tech High School Jan. 30 at Leopards field by a score of 0-0 in regulation, but was outlasted in penalty kicks. Each team was pretty evenly matched and both had chances to score throughout regulation. It was a game with a lot of defense even though the two teams both had chances to score, leading to Manor New Tech outlasting the Leopards with PK’s.

Brazos Cougars defeated by Mumford in softball
WALLIS – Brazos softball was defeated in a scrimmage-like format Feb. 2 at Cougars Field by Mumford High School with a fi nal score of 2-0. It was a pretty evenly matched game, it was just that Mumford had a few more runners on base and were able to knock them home with a couple runs batted in. “I would say the little fundamentals,” said Brazos head softball coach Lauren Caka on the differences in the game.

La Grange just above .500 in boy's soccer
Leopards boy’s soccer is hanging tough near the .500 mark as they stride through year one of the Brodney Pool era. Pool is a first-year head coach who also serves as the defensive coordinator on the football team. He played seven seasons in the NFL as a defensive back for the Cleveland Browns and the New York Jets.

Flatonia boy’s basketball in solid shape
The Flatonia High School boy’s basketball team has impressed this season after graduating a ton of seniors last year, which included almost their entire starting lineup. Head coach Chris Sodek provides pressure on defense and a fast-paced tempo on offense to result in easy scoring most of the time. Flatonia’s game is forcing turnovers to create fast-breaks, leading to easy points.
