FC Sheriff’s Sergeant Meagher risks life to save a life
LA GRANGE – Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported, on the night of Aug. 16 around 9:38 p,m., the Fayette County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a structure fire on Plum Church Road off State Highway 71 near La Grange and it was reported by the caller someone was still in the house and cannot get out. The La Grange Fire Department was notified and responded along with Fay ette County Deputies, Fayette County EMS 2, and EMS Medic 1. La Grange Fire Department requested mutual aid from the Muldoon Fire Department. Sgt. Ryan Meagher arrived on the scene to a wooden structure residence that was heavily engulfed with fire. Brahmas just getting in the flow for volleyball
Bellville High School volleyball currently sits at 5-5, but there’s no need to fret or panic. Bellville started 4-3 last year and ended up making it to the state tournament with an undefeated record in district (13-0) and an overall record of 39-11. The 2023 Brahmanettes will have the weapons in place to get back right where they were in ’22 with players such as junior outside hitter Sydney McKay and senior Sarah Lischka.

Fayetteville downs Hempstead in volleyball season opener
The Fayetteville High School volleyball team won their first game of the season against Hempstead High School August 8 at Lions Gym two sets to one in tournament play. The Lady Li- ons struggled to find their mojo in the first set, then eventually settled in for the remainder of the match and took the last two sets. “We got a lot of moving parts, a lot of different pieces than last year,” said Fayetteville head volleyball coach Clint Jaeger.

FA Knights wins big in three team switch-off style scrimmage
BELLVILLE – The Faith Academy Knights held their first scrimmage of the young football season at SAB Stadium, Friday night at 6 p.m. in front of a packed house. The Knights welcomed Spring Founders (TAPPS) and Second Baptist University Model (TAPPS), in a three team switchoff style scrimmage. A few minor mistakes here and there with the blocking but they moved the ball all night and outscored both by teams by a combined, 11 touchdowns.

Austin County Brewers win league championship
The Austin County Brewers baseball team recently won the community league championship by defeating the Shiner Clippers with a score of 9-3. Matt Sandoval was awarded the win and pitched eight innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out seven batters.

Shooting in Eagle Lake by open-carry individual
EAGLE LAKE -Shots were fired in Eagle Lake on Aug. 5 in what appears to be an open-carry person defending himself and his wife. According to witnesses, the shooter and his wife were exiting J&K in Eagle Lake with another man following behind and harassing the wife.

Surviving the 70s – The Perils of Art Class
I’ve written about the 1970s before. For those of us growing up in the 70s, it was an interesting time. For some unknown reason, I recently found myself remembering and relating the following story to my wife. It was her suggestion that this is column worthy, so here goes… In my junior high and high school years, I attended a low-budget private school. There I received an excellent education, but as students our academic progress was perhaps not always made in the safest of circumstances.
