When one part hurts
Recently, the Wharton Lion’s Club presented a rose to me in honor of my brother Leroy Dettling who passed away last December. I was so proud of that beautiful flower! I protected it from getting crushed as I drove home and as soon as I got to my house, I made sure to put it in a vase with water. I was going to keep that white flower alive as long as I possibly could.
Jesus’ Facebook Friends
Have you ever met your Facebook friend in the grocery store aisle and got the cold shoulder? Your so-called friend walks right past you without giving you their whole life story or new personal tragedy like they do on Facebook. Unfortunately, that is the way of social media life. How many “friends” can you rack up to up your standings? Whatever it takes, sometimes. They pour out their life to you and them, and then they “ghost” you in real life. Are we one of Jesus’ Facebook friends?

A few weeks before Halloween and many years ago, when I was still married to my former husband, he and I and a couple we knew all decided we would celebrate Halloween dressed as the Midwest.
Early voting begins
Early voting in the Nov. 8 general election begins Oct. 24 and runs through Nov. 4. Applications for voting by mail must be received by Oct. 28, according to the secretary of state's office. Texans are eligible to vote by mail if they are 65 or older; sick or disabled; are expected to give birth within three weeks of Election Day; will be absent from the county where they vote during early voting and on Election Day; or are in jail but otherwise eligible.
