Flatonia High School senior Kobe Burton not only made it to the state track meet at University of Texas, but excelled by earning a gold medal in the 2A boys shot put event last weekend.

Schulenburg holds lift under the lights event
Schulenburg High School athletics brought the weights out to the football field April 30 at David Husmann Memorial Stadium as they had three metal stations set up for squatting and one orange padded seat for the bench press. The ones participating were a number of athletes, mostly football players, who cheered each other on as they lifted weights. There were also coaches on hand to help spot the athletes during their reps and provide extra support as well. One of the coaches on site was head football coach and athletic director Luke Hobbs.

Oakridge VFD holds annual fundraiser
OAKRIDGE – It just keeps getting bigger and better as the Oakridge Volunteer Fire Department opens up its doors to its new fire station for the annual fundraiser on May 4 in Oakridge near Weimar. The chicken fried steak dinner were not the only highlight of the day. Instead of pie in the sky, it was pie in the face as the Oakridge VFD chief and president got a taste of whipped cream. The event was filled with laughter, games, and the thrill of winning, making it a day to remember.

COLUMBUS – A dedicated staff member of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, Shelley Janik, has accepted the position of office manager. Shelley works tirelessly every day for the chamber’s members. She is the cheerful voice you hear when you call and the cheerful face you see when you come to the office. She is always upbeat and seeks to meet the needs of chamber members, the community at large, the visitors and tourists.

Seniors Together holds successful fundraiser
COLUMBUS – The Seniors Together group, both Columbus and Weimar, held a rummage sale for the community. Proceeds go to help fund the activities and other expenses associated with running senior group centers in Colorado County. Seniors Together meet in Columbus and Weimar and plans are in the works to add Eagle Lake to the list.
