The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, FDIC, a United States government corporation which supplies deposit insurance to depositors in American banks, was first created in 1933. This was done to restore trust in the American banking system after the failure of more than one-third of the banks in our country due to the Great Depression (19291940). Prior to this, the depositor who had lost his money was left without any hope or help.
